Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunt – Making music through exploring.

Day 1 (The Hunt):   The 12th May Band & Social Club is going to organise a Scavenger Hunt at Ħaż-Żebbuġ for its music students and other children (age 8 to 15 years). Group leaders will be assigned to each group. All the participants in this scavenger hunt, will explore and learn about some historical places and sites in Ħaż-Żebbuġ. They will visit as many places as they can in the shortest time. For every place they visit, there will be different instructions and tasks to do, look for and find, so they will earn more points for their team. Each team will earn points: for every completed task; for finishing first, second and third; and for every item that is collected from the scavenger list. In the end, the team with the most points wins! Together with a composer in charge in every group during the hunt, all the participants will have to choose a visited place that seems suitable to inspire a music composition, for a group performance platform.

Day 2 (Making music) : All the participants of every group, with the guidance of the appointed composer will compose music, by using music notes and graphic notation. They should score for musical instruments, existing furniture, body percussion, voices, digital and virtual effects and everything that could be used for the composition. All the participants will create their group composition score that they will perform during the performance of the group composition. Improvisation within the performance process will be encouraged. During this session all the participants will rehearse their group composition and organise logistics and all that is needed for the presentation of their composition. Discussions and comments should continue at home on a padlet wall that the composer in charge is encouraged to create, including all the group participants. (With all this learners will be exploring, evaluate, improvise and integrate 21st Century skills such as creativity, innovation, collaboration, teamwork, critical thinking, problem solving and digital literacy).

Day 3 (Performance day) :     An organised activity will be held at the 12th May Band main hall. This includes the group composition performances, a short talk accompanied by a visual presentation about the visited places during the Scavenger hunt and the announcement of the winner group of the Scavenger Hunt.
